- Abstract:
- Effect of garlic, ginger, roselle and their combinations on the growth performance, nutrient digestibility and carcass characteristic of broiler chicken was investigated. A total of 210 1- day old Arbor Acre broiler chicks were randomly distributed into seven dietary treatments of three replicate each in a Completely Randomized Design. The diet consist basal diet (control, D1), control with 3% ginger (D2), 3% roselle (D3), 3% garlic (D4), 1.5% each of ginger + garlic (D5), ginger + roselle (D6) and 500IU vitamin E (D7). Data generated were subjected to One Way ANOVA using IBM SPSS version 21. The average daily gain, average daily feed intake and feed conversion ratio were not different (P>0.05) from the control, while nutrient digestibility were significant (Pgarlic and ginger-roselle supplementation improved serum total proteins of broiler chickens. Inclusion of natural antioxidant in the diets of broiler is hereby advocated.
